Next weekend Team StubbledGamer will be taking part in GameBlast16 to raise money for Special Effect – The Gamer’s Charity. Starting at 5pm on Saturday evening stubbledgamer & greatmuerte will be setting up camp on our sofa and gaming non-stop for 24 hours.
Picture the scene. It’s12:59. My hand is trembling with excitement as I press the refresh button on the web browser. 13:00. I hit refresh again and the link to the registration form appears on the laptop before me. I have never ticked boxes so fast in my life. It was done. The confirmation screen in front of me; I was booked in for a Playstation VR trial session at #EGX2015. A quick screen grab for proof on the day and I was ready, all I had to do was wait…

We have a lot of mobile games these days (greedy gits!). What started as free, preloaded games on our devices has now evolved into a huge juggernaut; devouring our free time, whether on a bus waiting for the driver to pull his foot out and get on with it, begging the hours of the day to drift by at work as you send assorted characters on their daily tasks or swiping at that small screen as you hack n’ slash your way to greatness. That’s right ladies and gentleman; we are talking about the changing times of mobile gaming.
I’m sure we have all harped back to those days when we were younger; when the grass was greener; when the air was fresher; when you could buy two pints of beer for less than a fiver (damn I miss that); and when video games seemed so much more important; more impressive. It was as if the games had one cheeky hand on your bottom whilst dancing with your imagination; your very being… but these are lies, my friends. Do not let your rose-tinted glasses fool you…
So far my #WednesdayWishlists have been solely about stuff that I would like to have – a simple exercise in base capitalism. Now, don’t get me wrong, I love wanting, buying and owning cool stuff however it’s not the only thing I wish for.
